I officially hate Disney with a passion. First they buy Marvel, then Sega, and now....now they've grabbed Naruto.....

Starting in October, the english dub of Naruto Shippuden will be aired weekly on Disney XD. As if the first series wasn't completely butchered enough. At least 4kids hadn't gotten ahold of it back then. But now.....Disney has gotten their grimey claws into my favorite smart-ass ninja.....

Disney, you have officially been bumped to the top of my hit list. When I take over the world, you're going to be the first thing that I fire into the sun!!!

Actually, Disney XD plays the old X-Men and Spiderman cartoons, too (I see them on On Demand). I think it's the perfect place to play Naruto.

You're a nerd, Dessa. (But I watch them on XD too  )

But still, Disney has a habit of making things overly kid-friendly. The old Spiderman and X-Men cartoons were never that graphic to begin with(I.E. no blood, excessive language, or themes that were sexual in nature).

Just watch. Jiraiya won't be the "pervy sage" anymore, Kakashi-sensei's favorite book series will probably become something like Happy Kitty Stuck in a Tree, and the violence will be severely downplayed. Hell, they'll probably alter Sai's costume in some way because he shows too much skin. And how will they mutilate poor Tsunade?

You realize that it's still FUNimation doing it, right? The only difference is the channel that it's being played on. There won't be any difference in the show.

hah, basically this.
at the very least, they're only spreading Naruto around even more. If anything, you should be happy since you like the anime that much :)

No complaining here... I'm personally quite pleased with this. Especially when you remember that all the Miyazaki films are put out by Disney, and they've proven to have a good deal of respect for anime. Perhaps it will mean that more/better merchandise will show up in stores? At least I'm hopeful for that maybe happening...

Disney has put out some quality anime, give them a chance. Nausicaa Valley of the Wind and The Cat Returns are two that are fairly well done as well as the Miyazakis. I love Naruto, when it's in Japanese, hate it in English, so it doesn't really matter to me haha

I think that putting Shippuden on Disney channel has opened up the amount of people who will be exposed to anime through American pop culture. True, Naruto isn't my top choice for this exposure, but it's better than nothing. : )

All I can say is just be thankful it is even on TV at all. With only one network (CW) showing anime on its weekend kids lineup, to Cartoon Network reducing its anime lineup, and the decline and fall of Anime Network; the choices are pretty much try to watch what's left on TV or just wait until it comes out on DVD. The golden age of anime on US TV is past and we are now seeing the inevitable backlash to it. As for Disney's recent moves, I can see one main reason for it. They want to get into markets that it has never been able to reach with its existing products: namely teenage and college age boys. By acquiring Marvel, Sega, and shows like Shippuden; they hope to reach those particular demographics. (At least that is my guess!)

Seriously sometimes I think everybody here is a hatemonger when it comes to hearing about Disney bought Marvel Comics. SO WHAT?

Remember guys... Disney has some quality animation, and they're one of the TOP money-making entertainment industries in the United States AND overseas. That's like taking a general opinion of Starbucks and not buying your coffee there because somebody told you that they "burn their coffee beans" (uh... ever heard of French and Italian Roast???). Hey, I'm not saying I'm guilty myself for doing the same thing about other stuff, but I have to play devil's advocate here because I'm just seeing this HUGE VIBE OF IGNORANCE throbbing violently from the outside of this thread.

Sorry if this turns into a flame war, but I feel like I'm heading into "Whine-Country" here. Bashing Disney cartoons is like shooting fish in a barrel (believe me, they made some pretty silly cartoons that we all kinda wish we didn't see), but overall... it's still good animation. They were one of the FIRST successful animation studios back in their heyday, and they were really good at what they did. They STILL are pretty good at what they do, especially now that Pixar is under their roof.

^Not only that, but Disney is a family-oriented brand. Putting Naruto under that label might give families an opportunity to try anime together instead of the child trying it and the parents being all "Meh, stupid kiddie cartoon," which may still happen, but you never know. Personally, I wouldn't use Naruto to do this, but that's my own opinion.

when you come to realize that disney basically already has taken over the world, you'll understand that you'll have to destroy them to accomplish your first goal anyways.

i will say i was happy/surprised that they started putting x-men and other marvel titles on disney. though, that doesn't say anything of what they might do to the future of the franchises (which, if they're smart...will be virtually nothing)

no...actually, i was appalled with what they did to Nausicaa and Laputa. i saw them both originally in japanese back in the early nineties when my aunt sent me a video with them both on it. i think they did well with Princess Mononoke (although, their voice direction was questionable because honestly i didn't think Claire Dames did very well), but then using James Vander(blah) for Pazu? For that matter, completely mispronouncing Nausicaa? so, some of their decision making on what to do with the anime they've acquired is quite questionable, and based on that alone, i am a skeptic of all of Disney's activity. but honestly, there's not enough going on with Naruto for me to care about that procurement. maybe they'll wise up and rip out the hundred plus episodes of needless filler.

I think you're all confused, it was obviously disney that ruined Kingdom Hearts *cough*Squeenix*cough*

I agree with Vikingwarrior, if you look at older Disney movies, it's not so much the cutesy stuff people now give it flack for- of course it has been watered down over the years, but the first animated films and shows released by the Disney company were quite.. erm, not sugary, hell, Pinnochio is known to scare even adults.

<_< Besides, if you don't want to see it "ruined" by Disney, then go watch subs on youtube or something.

Plenty of truth to this. In fact, it usually seems as though with the changing of times, Disney has been becoming more and more "kid" friendly. It was something that previously was most apparent with any sequels to relatively good movies.

And also, Disney is known as the family company; they release the more adult themed movies under the company Touchstone Pictures. (like Who Framed Roger Rabbit or Arachnophobia)

Yeah, it makes me wonder with princess Mononoke, there was a lot of blood in that movie, although it does kind of explain why that one isn't so popular with the general public.

After watching both the Japanese version of Shippuden and the Disney edit (no, its not just a dub) I can confirm that Disney has ruined it. It also seems like their announcer has never even heard the Japanese language in his life.

I don't think Disney acquiring Shippuden is a big deal, or a surprise. Naruto is a super popular shonen (boys) series that is perfect for Disney XD, a channel geared towards young males. Shippuden, on Disney XD, isn't meant for hard core fans of the original anime. Disney knows that those fans already watch the subbed or raw version on streaming sites like Hulu or by downloading [REDACTED].

I've been a Marvel Comics fan since the early 90's. I think Disney buying Marvel is a good thing. Disney is usually pretty good about managing brands. Apart from maybe starting a kid friendly line of comics, Disney will most likely keep Marvel's main line the same. Marvel is a strong brand, with it's own identity. Disney knows better than to change it. Remember, Disney owns Touchstone and Miramax, both companies release films that do not fall into Disney's family friendly image.

Here's a link to an article covering the deal between Disney and Ghibli, and the past and present relationship between the two companies. Both companies have been working together a lot longer, and a lot closer, than most people might think. Sakuracon even plays a part in this story!

Congrats on researching up things- although I thought Miramax broke away from Disney?

Oh well, Miramax dubbed Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals, which IMO was the best dub in history.

Also, this is Naruto; a series with a bajillion episodes not to mention god-knows-how-much-filler, they're probably trying to cover as many episodes as possible and thus quantity > quality yet again.

The -only- Miyazaki film Disney's dubbed recently that made me want to choke something was the redubbing of My Neighbor Totoro; the little girls voice was nails on chalkboard to the 9th degree.

that's quite possible...like i mentioned...they continually mispronounced Nausicaa's name through their dub.

i'm with you Tucky...i mean, i'm worried only due to the fact that i dislike Disney, or even the idea that they control anything i have a love for. however, that being said, they aren't completely stupid and haven't acquired half the bloody world on accident. i figure they'll use the Marvel name to launch some stuff they want with marginal success (they hope) they might otherwise not get off the ground, but will probably let the guys who know what they're doing already, keep at it.

i don't know that the time the two licenses have spent together have to do with anything. a lengthy relationship doesn't mean a good one.

I hate disney for my own reasons, but this isn't one of them. I started out liking naruto in japanese, couldn't stand it in english. I stopped liking it even in japanese after 1?? and shippuuden after 40 something. Though it's always interesting to see some of the greater highlights from the manga showing up in anime form, browsing through all the flashbacks and stare downs is still rather bothersome to me. Back to the topic at hand this makes no difference to me, though admittingly I would watch miyazaki on disney and give naruto a watch to see how much blood disney is willing to show.
