Cause a con this awesome certainly needs its own thread.

So who's going? Who might you be cosplaying as, and which artists will you be excited to see/purchase from? (the AA is in serious need of more love from the average con goer).

Also opinions on the four/five con hotels, and various other Fanimecon area tips and so forth, such as where to eat (Santana Row).

I'm considering going again this year (last year was my first Fanime), I just need to figure out if I want to drop the money for plane tickets. Those are super cheap right now, though.

If I do end up going I'll be staying at the Marriott (have a room reserved there). I stayed at...the Crowne Plaza (I think that's what it was...the one across the light rail tracks) last year and would rather be right on site instead of having that walk, even if it was small.

Cosplays I'd take:
Snowtrooper
Firo Prochainezo (Baccano!)
Dr. Horrible
Spitfire (Air Gear, if I have the ATs done by then..)

Plus maybe Greed or Kurosaki Isshin.

Dr. Horrible (ELE)

I hope you can finish Spitfire, I'd love to see it.

Yeah I've noticed that when fishing around for tickets to AE to see how much I'll need to have saved for it. Greyhound might be another option to consider if you don't mind consider a longer treck there, that's how I have got to AX ever since I've been attending it. Something of a tradition now really.

But isn't the Crowne Plaza really close anyway? As is the Fairmont (where I'm staying) and the Sainte Claire (really not suggested if your having more then four - five people in a room). I just don't quite get the nessecary appeal of the con center hotels, yes they are the closest but they also will have the longest of elevator waits due to their popularity and all the hotels are quite close really. Anyway I'd suggest booking the Marriott now if all possible, though you might already be too late. That and the Hilton are the first hotels to fill up.

I've got the base boots on the way so I might be able to finish by Fanime, will definitely have it by AX.

The problem with Greyhound/Amtrak for me is that I live in Portland so it is like a 20 hour ride or something like that, which is wayy too long for me. Plus I believe the tickets are close enough to being the same price as plane tickets that it makes it worth it to spend the extra $20-50 for a ride that is only 3 hours.

Yeah the Crowne Plaza is just right across the light rail tracks, I just have a lot of costumes with super uncomfortable shoes so the less walking I have to do, the better. And as for elevators, I know all about that. The elevators at the Crowne Plaza were pretty bad too. I don't really go back to my hotel room a whole lot (maybe once or twice a day before I go to sleep) so I'm not worried too much about it. I also made a reservation there right when the hotels were announced so I'm good on that department as well.

Just need to see if I can afford to go so I can get my plane tickets. Might need to work some overtime to do it but I think I can.

Ohhh ahhh well that makes sense about those ticket prices I suppose then. As well as about the walking, I just don't tend to get why those hotels are really pumped up (the Marriott and Hilton) while the Fairmont will offer you 200 extra square feet of room for the same rate (enough where having six-eight people actually isn't a very uncomfortable squeeze). Though the Hilton revonation does look rather nice I'll give them that.

Blah I want to do Kilik again sometime, but Fanime won't be it since I've already over committed cosplay wise as it is. Need to see when the gatherings are next year first before actually saying yes to so many.

If the plane tickets really aren't that much more in price I'm sure you'll be able to attend.

I already have my flight booked and my hotel situation taken care of. This would be Fanime #6 for me. Fanime has never once failed to give me a good time with my buddies. It's nostalgic in a way since I used to live in the Bay Area.

No plans for cosplay yet. I haven't even finalized my Sakura Con costumes!

I really wish I had the money right now to buy plane tickets. <.<

If I can end up spending less than $250 for the plane tickets I'll have no problem being able to go.

Fanime never fails to please indeed : D

So any guesses on who suprise guests A, B, C are? I'm hoping Matsuei Yuusei (mangka behnd the genious Majin Tantei Nogami Neuro), Perfume (Japanese electropop girl group), and Paku Romi (more for a friend then myself, I'd prefer to see the legendary Norio Wakamoto).

Also good would be the mangakas Hidekai Sorachi (Gintama) and/or Nishi Yoshiyuki (Muyho&Rouji's BSI, Bokke-san). A video game creator like Kenji Inafune (of Megaman fame) would make a pretty cool guest to I think.

Well see if you can find someone to ride with down to the con and/or Greyhound it perhaps? C:

If I could afford to take that extra time off work I would totally do that, but since I can't I have to fly :P

I'm working a lot of overtime this month so I can buy the tickets :P

Well at least flights seem a lot cheaper of late, a planned flight up to Vancouver in June for AE costs only a bit more then 250$.

Yeah, roundtrip. $49 each way plus taxes/fees. The lowest price you can get with Southwest (which is pretty much the only airline I will use) ^-^

Cosplays are going well. I won't have anything new for Fanime that I won't have at Sakura-con so I've got to finish before then. Still have a lot of little things to do on my snowtrooper..must work on it this weekend <.<

Well that sounds better then the no new ones I'll have ready for it, I might just skip cosplaying at all this year at this rate. Money needs to be spent elsewhere.

My cosplay fixiation kind of came and gone in the period of one year, not that I've lost all interest in doing it, just that I'm not as into it as I once was.

you should try general costuming. its an opportunity to wrap yourself in awesomeness as opposed to imitating something you are clearly not.
