Have you seen the bus ads and commercials?

Postby mira » Fri Feb 20, 2009 4:52 pm

I'm getting a trickling of excited mail from people who are seeing us promoted around town on various Metro and Sound Transit busses (both in and out) and on TV. Just thought I'd see if any forum users have caught a glimpse...please feel free to share photos too. :)

Zita caught the commercial during Wreckreation Nation (awesome show) on Discovery. Too bad it wasn't during the episode featuring Dagorhir (medieval/fantasy war reenactments... that would've been appropriate)

I've actually seen it twice on Discovery so far, since it's one of the usual channels I turn on for noise -- or for actual shows that I watch. I don't remember what I was watching the second time, but the first was during Wreckreation Nation.

I ride the bus (usually Sound Transit 594) every Tuesday with my son, but I never saw them either - and I was looking out for them! T-T

Maybe next year. ^^b

I know I got a lot of excited calls about the bus ads (and text messages). This year was our first foray into using them-and I think we had a decent level of response (supported by our surveys thus far).

Alinda, if you took a specific bus you might not have seen them on sound transit because only main commuter lines going straight into Seattle had them and even then they weren't on the street side or interior. So ironically enough, you could get on a bus and never know it was on there. :)

I'd really like to see us to the "queen" side of the bus next year because more people can see those as they board. We did only "king" this year at the suggestion of the ad agency we had to purchase them through-statistically speaking you get more views from the general public on that side.

ST 594 is a main commuter line going straight into Seattle. That's the one we are usually on... but as you say, if they were all on the street side, it may have been on the bus we were on and I wouldn't know it. I'm somewhat skeptical about the advice that you get more views on the street side. True, more cars go by on the street side, but it seems to me that most of the time when I'm in a car, I don't notice the bus ads as much... except when I'm following behind the bus. Then I notice the ad on the back. I notice more bus ads when I am walking on a sidewalk or getting ready to board a bus.

Is there any way we can mix things up a bit with some ads on one side, some on another, and maybe a few on the back?

peace

I think you said it yourself-you may have missed it because it was on the street side. We had interior ads and King ads this year-at the strong suggestion of the ad agency. Mind you, they made the suggestion for the campaign we had whilst rejecting a more expensive proposal I inquired about, which would have factored in other locations for placement. So it wasn't as if I just went with what they suggested without questioning it or considering other options. They had statistics based on years of study to back up their recommendation. :)

If we have the budget availability, I'd like to see us re-visit other areas of placement.

Well I don't know how effective the ads may have been in getting people to attend, but I do know they were seen. I had several of my co-workers at work that are regular users of the bus system and they all mentioned seeing them to me.
