Anyone use Sakura-Con as a family outing?

Postby onecoolc » Sat Jul 24, 2010 1:00 pm

Hiyah. For the last two years, and for 2011 as well, my family has been using SakuraCon as our family vacation. My dad and my stepmom take time off of work, and we all drive down to Seattle from Portland for the Convention (My two older siblings come along if they can afford the time away from college). It's nice because it takes a boat load of expenses off my shoulders, I've got happy-to-be-there chaperons, and it's fun to be able to share something I care so much about with my family.

Since it looks like most con-goers go with friends, I was curious to see if anyone else does the same thing. :D

My friend has gone two years in a row with her mom while her sister and step-dad go off and do other things in the city. Her mom's actually pretty cool when it comes to cons, and they always seem to enjoy it. : )

My younger sister and dad used to go as a family, before he passed away. It was something fun for all of us. :D

I went to Sakura Con in 2009 by myself and I had a lot of fun. However, I was thinking how much fun my son would of had. I took my son to Sakura Con this year and he loved it. We are now planning on going to the Sakura Con in 2011. I hope that we can continue to go every year.

My fiancee and I started going to the con the first year we were together, and now a good nine years later we are still going and have added a child to the mix. ^_^ This is going to be the first year for us to have to work around his school (starts kindergarten this year) but we still plan on going as a family for as long as we can.

Well... It's something I would like to do - but something that definatly wouldn't happen.
My father constantly harrases me about being "corrupted" by anime. Which is quite funny but also irratating as well.
My mother actually didn't mind until she over heard my talking about being a future Hentai Artist. So now she believes - that i'm a wierd pervert.
Haha, so as you can see my family would definatly deny the request of going. Unless you want a deranged father yelling everything is stupid and "Gay" ( He says that alot ) and Mother that fells ultimately out of place and umcomfortable.

Sakuracon is the big event I get to share with my niece. It's really special for me to hang out with her at con and see her enjoy herself. She also keeps me on schedule since I'm on staff and running too many directions all at once. She's a real jem.

Perhaps this body is nothing but a sword itself.

Lol, ok I can't spell but most of my friends know that already. Still, yeah she's amazing. And I do think of my friends at SC as an extended family, so yes SC is a family outing for me.
Hanging out with you all is a real kick.

Cheers!

I'm hoping to build a family of sorts that I can return to year after year~

I'd love to use SC as a family outing, but I doubt that it'd be much fun after a couple hours with my family. >> They're not big on anime & manga, and they'd gripe all day. Dx

At least my CDC family will be there with me~~

I went with my two best friends that are like my sisters(One in the picture with me in my avi). And we had tons of fun as 'sisters'. But we
are planning on kidnapping my father and his girlfriend to go next year. My dad isn't into Anime very much but he enjoys seeing what I
do and is very happy to join in on things that I let him. His girlfriend though-she's into manga and a bit of anime so it's cool with her.
So the plan is I get to introduce them to things they haven't gotten to experience and dress them up in cosplay that I will be making!
But I try to invite as many people to come with me and I may even have my cousin from Illinois come too! She's super into it and her
husband. So I think really it is a family outing and there is plenty of things for people to do. Heck-if they get bored at the con there
is alway some adventuring around Seattle. (Which is what my dad and his girlfriend plan on doing some of the time.) It's always fun.

But if the family has no idea what it is you gotta introduce them to anime and manga. Maybe they'll enjoy it once they test some of
the colorful arrays of Japanese culture. Start with something tiny then get bigger and bigger then take them to the Con. That's my
plan of attack. :) ~~Ancel

I'm so indecisive so this will likely end up changing many times over the next year :p
Thursday- No idea yet. Maybe myself...
Friday- Utena (Utena-Revolutionary Girl)0% or/and Juliet(RomeoXJuliet)0%
Saturday- S.A Uniform 0%
Sunday- Easter Inspired Lolita 0%

I wish it could be a family outing...Not many anime fans in the family...two? three maybe? My dad took me to my first Sakuracon, even though he doesn't like anime, but will probably never go back... (we were harassed by line control...what happened was already submitted to those in charge...things went much smoother the following year, yay! But my dad still wont come back :( ) My sister lives in Seattle but hasn't been able to go due to work...my mom will never go... It's Easter... *sigh* She doesn't like anime anyway...

My friends I make at the con will be my family! So it is a family outing afterall...

This was my first year and my parents decided to do a trip after I said I wanted to come one year, so it was all so sudden. They didn't go to the con per say (this is our 3-4th time coming to Seattle) but they had a fun time just speculating as the other cosplayers going by the hotel and doing touristy stuff on their own.

Now my stepdad want to join me for next year's, along with bringing some friends (which would help out with expenses lol), which will be their first time coming.
